This FN Big 1600 is the biggest hand forged 'effin big fish knife by Master Kuo to date. The black scale from the forge forms a natural protective coating that keeps the blade from rusting, and looks pretty cool, too. Made from high carbon spring steel, it has an RC hardness of 60-61 and weighs in at 1.6 kg, or just over 3.5 lbs. In the grand scheme of all the Taiwan Tuna Knives, this knife is bigger than the FN Big 1500, and meant to be used more like a zipper by using the weight to penetrate into, then push through and slice big fish like like Tuna, Mahi and swordfish. The big belly of the knife also acts as a heavy cleaver that can cut through the bones, head and tail of the fish. Knife care: Keep clean with warm water and soap. Towel dry immediately. Do not put into dish washer. The edge steel can show signs of surface rust over time. Most surface rust can be removed by sharpening the edge or using a scotch brite pad. Kuo Chang-Shi is most famous for forging the original Green Sword of Destiny from the 2000 movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. His Damascus steel designs incorporate human bones and ashes to imbibe the spirit into the piece, as well as to add some elemental strength to the steel (such as manganese and phosphorus), which is based on historical accounts in ancient Chinese sword making.
